kBOS provides the only  security system with nine levels of security that can be easily managed and adapted to continuous business change. This is technically possible only because of unique kBOS model driven integration and information filtering approach.

The kBOS security system is designed to satisfy the most stringent requirements normally associated with mission critical systems such banking or stock exchange systems and medical.

The following security mechanisms are used:

1.      Nine permission levels

Permission to business objects is assigned according to the users, company, business unit, role and task. Further permission rights can be given to users with respect to folders, the actions they can perform on business objects or even a specific field in the database.

2.      Digital signatures

The digital signatures system proves the identity of the sign-in user and verifies the authenticity of a business document. A digital signature is created when a document is encrypted using a digital certificate that has been issued to the sign-in user. Private and public keys are used as provided by the Windows 2000 system. It is also possible to use smart cards for the creation of electronic signatures. In this case the private key is stored in the smart card where the digital signature is created. kBOS uses the encryption system of Windows 2000 for digital signatures of documents, business objects and the actions performed on the business objects. Further encryption methods are used to provide additional levels of security as required.

3.      NT security

Users have access to the system through their login as provided by the operating system Microsoft Windows (Windows integrated security). Single sign-on is also provided through this mechanism.

4.      Internet security

A Secured Socket Layer (SSL) which features 128 bit (industry’s highest) encryption ensures that sensitive information is transmitted securely over the Internet
