Addressing the business requirements in the European maritime based transport sector Short sea shipping and intermodal transport have over a 50% share of the European transport market and further growth is necessary to support inter-regional trade growth and sustainable development. The development of Short Sea Shipping in Europe requires seamless integration into logistics chains offering door-to-door solutions to customers. Such logistics chains should be managed by one-stop shops offering the customers a single contact point that takes responsibility for the whole intermodal chain. The challenge is for shipping operators, ports and logistic providers to establish efficient networks to exploit emerging opportunities. Our approach · Reference models and trajectories of the development of maritime transport as part of a Trans-European Transport Network; · Opportunities identification and assessment (e.g. new corridors, options for new routes, additional ports of call, risk assessment, etc) · Innovative designs of maritime transportation networks particularly for Door to Door (D2D) freight services; · Integration solutions based on leading edge semantic web services; · Provision of a range of e-learning processes including e-training; · Provision of operational business intelligence information in company or network specific formats; · Support for quality management.
